Description

The CEBPE (CCAAT enhancer binding protein epsilon) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.

CEBPE, also known as C/EBP epsilon and CRP1, is a type of CCAAT-enhancer-binding protein that plays a crucial role in cell differentiation, particularly in the development of granulocytes. As a transcription factor, it binds to DNA as a homodimer or heterodimer with related proteins like CEBP-δ. Mutations in CEBPE have been linked to specific granule deficiency, a rare congenital disorder. The gene has multiple variants, but only one has been fully characterized.

CEBPE is a transcriptional activator that binds to DNA through two distinct motifs: the CCAAT homology found in many promoters and the enhanced core homology found in many enhancers. It plays a crucial role in the transition from promyelocytes to myelocytes during myeloid differentiation.

CEBPE is also known as C/EBP-epsilon, CRP1, IMD108, SGD1, c/EBP epsilon.
