EDEM3


Description

The EDEM3 (ER degradation enhancing alpha-mannosidase like protein 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

ER degradation-enhancing alpha-mannosidase-like 3 is an enzyme encoded by the EDEM3 gene in humans.

EDEM3 plays a crucial role in the endoplasmic reticulum-associated degradation (ERAD) pathway. It accelerates the degradation of misfolded glycoproteins by proteasomes. EDEM3 accomplishes this by removing mannose residues from the N-glycans of glycoproteins, specifically converting Man8GlcNAc2 to Man7GlcNAc2 (PubMed:25092655). Additionally, EDEM3 may participate in the trimming of mannose from all glycoproteins, not just those targeted for degradation (PubMed:34143952). EDEM3 is believed to possess alpha 1,2-mannosidase activity (By similarity).

EDEM3 is also known as C1orf22, CDG2V.
