Description

The EXOSC8 (exosome component 8) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 13.

Exosome component 8, also known as EXOSC8, is a human gene whose protein product is a component of the exosome complex. EXOSC8 has been shown to interact with Exosome component 5 and Exosome component 6.

EXOSC8 is a non-catalytic component of the RNA exosome complex, which plays a crucial role in RNA processing and degradation. It is involved in a variety of cellular functions, including rRNA, snRNA, and snoRNA maturation in the nucleus, elimination of RNA processing by-products, and degradation of unstable mRNAs in the cytoplasm. EXOSC8 contributes to the complex's ability to bind and present RNA for degradation, acting as a scaffold for the association of catalytic subunits and accessory proteins. Specifically, it binds to ARE-containing RNAs, suggesting a role in regulating the stability of mRNAs.
