Description

The ABCF1 (ATP binding cassette subfamily F member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

ABCF1 (ATP-binding cassette sub-family F member 1) is a human protein encoded by the ABCF1 gene. It belongs to the superfamily of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters, which are responsible for transporting various molecules across membranes. ABCF1 is a member of the GCN20 subfamily and, unlike other ABC transporters, lacks transmembrane domains. ABCF1 may be regulated by tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and potentially plays a role in enhancing protein synthesis and inflammation.

Isoform 2 of ABCF1 plays a crucial role in facilitating the initiation of mRNA translation, both through the conventional cap-dependent and the internal ribosome entry site (IRES)-mediated mechanisms. However, isoform 2 is not implicated in the process of ribosome biogenesis.

ABCF1 is also known as ABC27, ABC50.
