ARPIN
Description
The ARPIN (actin related protein 2/3 complex inhibitor) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.
ARPIN regulates actin polymerization by inhibiting the activity of the Arp2/3 complex, a key component of actin nucleation. This inhibition is competitive with other factors that promote nucleation. At the leading edge of migrating cells (lamellipodium), ARPIN participates in a complex regulatory loop. It responds to Rac signaling by inhibiting the Arp2/3 complex, while Rac also activates actin polymerization through the WAVE complex. This interplay contributes to the controlled directional movement of cells.
