BATF3

Description

The BATF3 (basic leucine zipper ATF-like transcription factor 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

BATF3 is an AP-1 family transcription factor that plays a crucial role in the differentiation of CD8(+) thymic conventional dendritic cells (cDCs) within the immune system. It is essential for the development of CD8-alpha(+) classical dendritic cells (cDCs) and related CD103(+) dendritic cells. These dendritic cells are responsible for cross-presenting antigens to CD8 T-cells and producing interleukin-12 (IL12) in response to pathogens. BATF3 achieves its function by forming heterodimers with JUN family proteins, which bind to a specific DNA sequence (5'-TGA[CG]TCA-3'). This interaction allows BATF3 to regulate the expression of target genes.

BATF3 is also known as JDP1, JUNDM1, SNFT.
