C2CD5

Description

The C2CD5 (C2 calcium dependent domain containing 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

C2CD5 plays a crucial role in insulin-stimulated glucose uptake by facilitating the movement of glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4) from intracellular storage vesicles to the cell surface in fat cells (adipocytes). This protein interacts with cell membranes in a calcium-dependent manner and is essential for efficient fusion between the vesicles containing GLUT4 and the cell membrane.

C2CD5 is also known as CDP138, KIAA0528.
