Description

The CCT8 (chaperonin containing TCP1 subunit 8) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 21.

T-complex protein 1 subunit theta is a protein that in humans is encoded by the CCT8 gene. The CCT8 protein is a component of the TRiC complex.

CCT8, also known as TCP-1-theta, CCT-theta, Chaperonin containing T-complex polypeptide 1 subunit 8, and Renal carcinoma antigen NY-REN-15, is a component of the chaperonin-containing T-complex (TRiC). TRiC is a molecular chaperone complex that assists in the folding of proteins upon ATP hydrolysis. TRiC mediates the folding of WRAP53/TCAB1, regulating telomere maintenance. As part of TRiC, CCT8 may play a role in the assembly of BBSome, a complex involved in ciliogenesis, regulating the transport of vesicles to the cilia. TRiC plays a role in the folding of actin and tubulin.
