CD99L2 plays a crucial role in leukocyte extravasation, particularly in a late step where cells need to traverse the endothelial basement membrane. It acts at the same location as PECAM1, but operates independently. Although CD99L2 is a homophilic adhesion molecule, these interactions might not be essential for cell aggregation.
