Description
The CDC40 (cell division cycle 40) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.
CDC40 is a gene that encodes Pre-mRNA-processing factor 17, a protein crucial for pre-mRNA splicing. This protein is essential for the second step of pre-mRNA splicing and is located within the spliceosome. CDC40 has seven WD repeats, which are involved in protein-protein interactions. Its sequence similarity to the yeast Prp17 protein suggests a potential role in cell cycle progression.
CDC40 is essential for pre-mRNA splicing as a component of the activated spliceosome. It plays a crucial role in embryonic brain development, independent of proline isomerization. CDC40 is found in pre-catalytic and catalytic spliceosome complexes, as well as in the postcatalytic spliceosome P complex.
CDC40 is also known as EHB3, PCH15, PRP17, PRPF17.
