CDH8

Description

The CDH8 (cadherin 8) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 16.

Cadherin-8 is a protein encoded by the CDH8 gene. It's a type II classical cadherin, a member of the cadherin superfamily, involved in cell-cell adhesion. The protein has a large extracellular domain with 5 subdomains, each containing a cadherin motif, responsible for its specific homophilic cell adhesion activity. Unlike type I cadherins, it lacks the HAV cell adhesion recognition sequence. CDH8 is expressed in the brain and potentially plays a role in synaptic adhesion, axon outgrowth, and guidance. Disruptions in CDH8 have been linked to autism.

CDH8 is also known as Nbla04261.
