COX10-AS1

COX10-AS1: A Gene of Interest in Health and Disease

Description

COX10-AS1 (Cytochrome c oxidase subunit 10 antisense RNA 1) is a non-coding RNA gene located on chromosome 22q13.33. It is transcribed in the antisense direction to the COX10 gene, which encodes a protein involved in mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation. COX10-AS1 has been found to play a role in regulating COX10 expression and in various cellular processes, including cell proliferation, apoptosis, and angiogenesis.

Associated Diseases

Dysregulation of COX10-AS1 has been linked to several human diseases, including:

  • Cancer: COX10-AS1 is overexpressed in many types of cancer, including lung cancer, breast cancer, and colon cancer. Its overexpression has been associated with increased cell proliferation, invasion, and metastasis.
  • Neurodegenerative diseases: COX10-AS1 is downregulated in several neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. Its decreased expression has been linked to impaired mitochondrial function and neuronal loss.
  • Cardiovascular diseases: COX10-AS1 is involved in regulating cardiac function and has been implicated in the development of heart failure and cardiomyopathy.

Did you Know ?

According to a recent study, patients with high levels of COX10-AS1 expression in their lung tumors have a significantly worse prognosis than those with low levels. This suggests that COX10-AS1 could serve as a potential biomarker for early cancer detection and prognosis.
