CTSZ

Description

The CTSZ (cathepsin Z) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 20.

Cathepsin Z, also known as cathepsin X or cathepsin P, is a protein encoded by the CTSZ gene in humans. It belongs to the cysteine cathepsin family, which includes 11 members, and possesses unique characteristics. Cathepsin Z has been linked to cancer malignancy and inflammation. The CTSZ gene is located on chromosome 20 at 20q13.32, spanning 6 exons. At least two transcript variants have been identified, but only one has been fully characterized. Cathepsin Z features an unusual 3-amino acid insertion in a highly conserved region near its active site. Its pro-region is distinct from other cathepsins, lacking the conserved ERFNIN or GNFD motif and containing only 41 amino acids.

CTSZ is also known as CTSX.
