Description

The LARS1 (leucyl-tRNA synthetase 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.

LARS1 is an aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase that catalyzes the attachment of leucine to its specific tRNA (tRNA(Leu)). This process, known as tRNA aminoacylation, occurs in two steps: first, leucine is activated by ATP to form leucyl-adenylate; then, the leucine moiety is transferred to the 3' end of tRNA(Leu) to create leucyl-tRNA. LARS1 also has editing capabilities, hydrolyzing misactivated aminoacyl-adenylate intermediates (pre-transfer editing) and mischarged aminoacyl-tRNAs (post-transfer editing) to ensure accurate protein synthesis.
