MANBA : mannosidase beta
Description
The MANBA (mannosidase beta) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.
The MANBA gene provides instructions for making the enzyme beta-mannosidase. This enzyme is found in lysosomes, which are cellular compartments responsible for breaking down and recycling materials. Within lysosomes, beta-mannosidase helps break down sugar molecule complexes (oligosaccharides) attached to proteins called glycoproteins. This enzyme is involved in the final step of this process, breaking down two-sugar molecule complexes (disaccharides) containing a sugar molecule called mannose.
MANBA is also known as MANB1.
