HMG20B

Description

The HMG20B (high mobility group 20B) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

HMG20B is a DNA-binding protein that plays a key role in regulating cell division. It binds to DNA and helps control the transition from the G2 phase of the cell cycle into mitosis. A mutation in the HMG20B gene has been linked to lung cancer. HMG20B interacts with several other proteins, including the BRCA2 tumor suppressor protein, and is part of a complex called the BHC histone deacetylase complex.

HMG20B is crucial for the accurate transition from the G2 phase of the cell cycle into mitosis. It also plays a role in the repression of genes specific to neurons by interacting with the RCOR1/CoREST complex.

HMG20B is also known as BRAF25, BRAF35, HMGX2, HMGXB2, PP7706, SMARCE1r, SOXL, pp8857.
