INHBE

Inhibin B (INHBE)

Description:

Inhibin B (INHBE) is a heterodimeric glycoprotein hormone produced primarily by the granulosa cells of ovarian follicles. It consists of an alpha subunit that is shared with other inhibin isoforms and a unique beta subunit, beta B. INHBE is a member of the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-Ξ²) superfamily and plays a crucial role in regulating the reproductive system.

Associated Diseases:

Dysregulated levels of INHBE have been associated with various reproductive disorders, including:

  • Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS): Elevated INHBE levels in PCOS can impair follicular development and ovulation.
  • Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS): High INHBE levels during ovarian stimulation can increase the risk of OHSS.
  • Premature Ovarian Failure (POF): Reduced INHBE production can contribute to impaired ovarian function and early menopause.

Did you Know ?

Approximately 70% of women with PCOS have elevated INHBE levels, highlighting its significant role in the pathogenesis of the syndrome.
