Description
The ITGA1 (integrin subunit alpha 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.
Integrin alpha-1, also known as CD49a, is an integrin alpha subunit encoded by the ITGA1 gene. It forms a dimer with the beta-1 subunit, creating the Ξ±1Ξ²1 integrin complex. This complex binds to various ligands, including collagen IV, collagen I, and others. CD49a has been identified as a marker for tissue resident memory T cells, often co-expressed with CD103 and CD69, and it has been shown to influence T cell motility.
Integrin alpha-1/beta-1 acts as a receptor for laminin and collagen, specifically recognizing the proline-hydroxylated sequence G-F-P-G-E-R within collagen. This interaction plays a role in regulating cell growth, specifically inhibiting EGF-stimulated growth in an anchorage-dependent manner.
