KLHDC1
Description
The KLHDC1 (kelch domain containing 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.
KLHDC1 acts as a substrate-recognition component within the Cul5-RING (CRL5) E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase complex. Specifically, it participates in the DesCEND (destruction via C-end degrons) pathway, identifying a C-degron located at the extreme C terminus of target proteins. This recognition triggers ubiquitination and subsequent degradation of the target protein. The C-degron recognized by the DesCEND pathway is typically a short motif, less than ten residues, and can be found in full-length proteins, truncated proteins, or those resulting from proteolytic cleavage.
