KRTAP3-1

Description

The KRTAP3-1 (keratin associated protein 3-1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

KRTAP3-1 is a component of the interfilamentous matrix surrounding hair keratin intermediate filaments in the hair cortex. This matrix plays a crucial role in providing strength and resilience to the hair shaft. KRTAP3-1, being a high-sulfur keratin-associated protein, contributes to the matrix's structural integrity through extensive disulfide bond formation with cysteine residues present in hair keratins.

KRTAP3-1 is also known as KAP3.1, KRTAP3.1.
