KRTAP5-4

Description

The KRTAP5-4 (keratin associated protein 5-4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

KRTAP5-4 plays a crucial role in hair structure by contributing to the interfilamentous matrix within the hair cortex. This matrix, composed of keratin-associated proteins (KRTAPs) like KRTAP5-4, is essential for creating a strong and resilient hair shaft. KRTAP5-4, characterized by its high sulfur content and abundance of glycine and tyrosine residues, forms extensive disulfide bonds with hair keratins, strengthening the hair structure.

KRTAP5-4 is also known as KRTAP5.4.
