KRTAP9-2
Description
The KRTAP9-2 (keratin associated protein 9-2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.
KRTAP9-2 plays a critical role in hair structure by contributing to the interfilamentous matrix within the hair cortex. This matrix, composed of various KRTAPs, forms a strong and resilient hair shaft through extensive disulfide bond cross-linking with hair keratins. The cross-linking is facilitated by the high cysteine content of KRTAP9-2 and other matrix proteins, including high-sulfur and high-glycine-tyrosine keratins.
