LCMT2
Description
The LCMT2 (leucine carboxyl methyltransferase 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.
LCMT2 is an enzyme encoded by the LCMT2 gene in humans. It belongs to the methyltransferase superfamily and functions as a checkpoint regulator during the G1/S and G2/M phases of the cell cycle. LCMT2 expression can be modulated by factors like cigarette smoke-induced oxidative stress and transforming growth factor beta 1, which may inhibit cellular proliferation.
LCMT2 is a methyltransferase that plays a role in the wybutosine biosynthesis pathway. It modifies guanosine in eukaryotic phenylalanine tRNA, specifically at the 3'-position adjacent to the anticodon. This modification involves methylating the carboxyl group of leucine residues to form alpha-leucine ester residues.
