LEFTY1
Description
The LEFTY1 (left-right determination factor 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.
LEFTY1 is a protein belonging to the TGF-beta family, encoded by the LEFTY1 gene in humans. It is involved in establishing left-right asymmetry of organs during embryonic development. A similar protein in mice plays a similar role. LEFTY1 can be processed into three different forms. The LEFTY1 gene is closely linked to other related genes and a pseudogene.
LEFTY1 plays a crucial role in establishing the left-right axis during embryonic development by regulating the activity of other signaling molecules, LEFTY2 and NODAL.
LEFTY1 is also known as LEFTB, LEFTYB.
