LSM4
Description
The LSM4 (LSM4 homolog, U6 small nuclear RNA and mRNA degradation associated) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.
LSM4 is a human gene that encodes the U6 snRNA-associated Sm-like protein LSm4. Sm-like proteins share sequence homology with the Sm protein family and contain the Sm sequence motif, which consists of two regions separated by a linker that folds as a loop.
LSM4 plays a crucial role in pre-mRNA splicing. It is a component of the U4/U6-U5 tri-snRNP complex, which is essential for spliceosome assembly. It also functions as a component of the precatalytic spliceosome (spliceosome B complex). The heptameric LSM2-8 complex, which includes LSM4, binds specifically to the 3'-terminal U-tract of U6 snRNA.
