MAP2K5
Description
The MAP2K5 (mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.
MAP2K5 is an enzyme encoded by the MAP2K5 gene. It's a dual specificity protein kinase belonging to the MAP kinase kinase family. MAP2K5 specifically activates MAPK7/ERK5, a key component in cell signaling. MAP2K5 itself can be activated by MAP3K3/MEKK3 and atypical protein kinase C isoforms (aPKCs). The signaling cascade involving MAP2K5 plays a role in cell proliferation and muscle cell differentiation. Four different isoforms of MAP2K5 have been identified.
