MBOAT1
Description
The MBOAT1 (membrane bound O-acyltransferase domain containing 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.
MBOAT1 is an acyltransferase that catalyzes the transfer of an acyl group from an acyl-CoA to a lysophospholipid, producing a phospholipid. This process is part of the phospholipid remodeling pathway, also known as the Lands cycle. MBOAT1 acts on lysophosphatidylserine (LPS) and lysophosphatidylethanolamine (LPE), and to a lesser extent lysophosphatidylcholine. It preferentially utilizes oleoyl-CoA as the acyl donor and 1-oleoyl-LPE as the acceptor. MBOAT1 may play a role in neurite outgrowth during neuronal differentiation.
