NMT1
Description
The NMT1 (N-myristoyltransferase 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.
Glycylpeptide N-tetradecanoyltransferase 1, also known as myristoyl-CoA:protein N-myristoyltransferase 1 (NMT-1), is an enzyme encoded by the NMT1 gene in humans. It belongs to the protein N-terminal methyltransferase and glycylpeptide N-tetradecanoyltransferase family of enzymes.
NMT1 catalyzes the addition of a myristoyl group to the N-terminal glycine residue of certain cellular and viral proteins. It can also mediate N-terminal lysine myristoylation of proteins, such as ARF6, on both 'Gly-2' and 'Lys-3'. Lysine myristoylation is essential for maintaining ARF6 on membranes during the GTPase cycle.
