The OR5P3 (olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily P member 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.
OR5P3 is a protein encoded by the OR5P3 gene in humans. It acts as an olfactory receptor, interacting with odorant molecules in the nose to trigger a neuronal response that leads to the perception of a smell. OR5P3 is part of a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and shares a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the genome. OR5P3 is known to interact with odorants such as 1-octanol, celery ketone, and (-)-carvone.
