The OR6V1 (olfactory receptor family 6 subfamily V member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.
Olfactory receptor 6V1 is a protein in humans encoded by the OR6V1 gene. It interacts with odorant molecules in the nose, initiating a neuronal response that leads to the perception of smell. This protein belongs to a large family of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), arising from single coding-exon genes. Olfactory receptors share a 7-transmembrane domain structure, similar to many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. They are responsible for recognizing and transducing odorant signals via G proteins. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, with unique nomenclature independent of other organisms.
