The ORC5 (origin recognition complex subunit 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.
ORC5, encoded by the ORC5 (ORC5L) gene, is a protein that plays a crucial role in DNA replication. It is a subunit of the origin recognition complex (ORC), a six-subunit protein complex essential for initiating DNA replication in eukaryotic cells. ORC binds specifically to origins of replication and acts as a platform for assembling other initiation factors, such as Cdc6 and Mcm proteins. ORC5 has been shown to form a core complex with ORC2L, -3L, and 4L. Alternative splicing of the ORC5 gene generates various isoforms.
