The PGM2 (phosphoglucomutase 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.
Phosphoglucomutase-2 (PGM2) is an enzyme encoded by the PGM2 gene in humans. PGM2 is a major isozyme in red blood cells.
PGM2 catalyzes the conversion of ribose-1-phosphate and deoxyribose-1-phosphate to their respective 5-phosphopentoses. It also interconverts glucose-1-phosphate into glucose-6-phosphate, but with a lower efficiency. In laboratory settings, PGM2 exhibits a low glucose 1,6-bisphosphate synthase activity, which is likely not biologically relevant.
