TRIM48
Description
The TRIM48 (tripartite motif containing 48) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.
TRIM48 acts as an E3 ubiquitin ligase, specifically targeting the protein methyltransferase PRMT1 for K48-linked polyubiquitination and degradation. This process has several downstream effects: it suppresses PRMT1-mediated methylation of the protein kinase MAP3K5/ASK1, leading to its activation and increased cell death in response to oxidative stress. Additionally, TRIM48-mediated ubiquitination of PRMT1 inhibits FOXO1 methylation by PRMT1, consequently suppressing FOXO1 transcriptional activity.
