TYSND1

Description

The TYSND1 (trypsin like peroxisomal matrix peptidase 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 10.

The TYSND1 gene encodes a protease that removes the N-terminal peroxisomal targeting signal (PTS2) from proteins produced in the cytosol, facilitating their import into the peroxisome. It also cleaves proteins targeted to peroxisomes through the C-terminal peroxisomal targeting signal (PTS1). The full-length protein undergoes self-cleavage, generating potentially inactive fragments. Multiple transcript variants exist due to alternative splicing.

TYSND1 is a peroxisomal protease that removes the leader peptide from proteins containing a PTS2 target sequence and also processes several PTS1-containing proteins. It plays a key role in the peroxisomal beta-oxidation of fatty acids by catalyzing the processing of PTS1-proteins involved in this process.

TYSND1 is also known as NET41.
