TYW1

Description

The TYW1 (tRNA-yW synthesizing protein 1 homolog) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.

TYW1 plays a crucial role in the biosynthesis of wybutosine, a modified guanine base found in eukaryotic phenylalanine tRNA. It catalyzes the formation of 4-demethylwyosine, a key intermediate in this process. This reaction involves the condensation of N-methylguanine with two carbon atoms from pyruvate, leading to the creation of the tricyclic 4-demethylwyosine.

TYW1 is also known as RSAFD1, TYW1A, YPL207W.
