DLX4


Description

The DLX4 (distal-less homeobox 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

The DLX4 gene produces a protein called DLX-4, which is a homeobox protein. Homeobox proteins are involved in regulating embryonic development and are similar to genes found in fruit flies. The DLX family has at least six members, DLX1-DLX6, all thought to be involved in forebrain and facial development. DLX4 has three different forms, but the full length of one is unknown. One form, BP1, acts as a repressor for the beta-globin gene, while the other form does not. This gene's information comes from the U.S. National Library of Medicine.

This protein may influence hemoglobin S production and act as a repressor. It is involved in palatogenesis during embryonic development. These roles are supported by research studies (PubMed:11909945, PubMed:25954033).
