FAM83H : family with sequence similarity 83 member H


Description

The FAM83H (family with sequence similarity 83 member H) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 8.

The FAM83H gene provides instructions for producing a protein whose function is not fully understood. This protein is found in various cell types, including ameloblasts. Ameloblasts are specialized cells that create tooth enamel, the hard, calcium-rich outer layer of teeth. It is believed that the FAM83H protein participates in enamel formation, but its exact role in this process remains unclear.

FAM83H may play a significant role in the structural organization and calcification of developing enamel (PubMed:18252228). It might also play a role in keratin cytoskeleton disassembly by recruiting CSNK1A1 to keratin filaments, which could regulate epithelial cell migration (PubMed:23902688).

FAM83H is also known as AI3, AI3A.
