PIGQ


Description

The PIGQ (phosphatidylinositol glycan anchor biosynthesis class Q) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 16.

The PIGQ gene encodes an enzyme called phosphatidylinositol N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase subunit Q. This enzyme is involved in the first step of glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchor biosynthesis. The GPI-anchor is a glycolipid found on many blood cells and serves to anchor proteins to the cell surface. PIGQ is part of a complex that catalyzes the transfer of N-acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc) from UDP-GlcNAc to phosphatidylinositol (PI).

PIGQ is also known as DEE77, EIEE77, GPI1, GPIBD19, MCAHS4, c407A10.1.
