Description

The TNFRSF13B (TNF receptor superfamily member 13B) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

The TNFRSF13B gene provides instructions for making a protein called TACI. TACI is found on the surface of immune system cells called B cells, which help protect the body against infection. When B cells mature, they produce antibodies (also called immunoglobulins). Antibodies attach to specific foreign invaders, marking them for destruction. Through interactions with other proteins, TACI promotes cell signaling, plays a role in B cell survival and maturation, and is involved in the production of antibodies.

TACI is a receptor for TNFSF13/APRIL and TNFSF13B/TALL1/BAFF/BLYS, binding to both ligands with similar high affinity. It mediates calcineurin-dependent activation of NF-AT, as well as activation of NF-kappa-B and AP-1. TACI is involved in the stimulation of B- and T-cell function and the regulation of humoral immunity.

TNFRSF13B is also known as CD267, CVID, CVID2, IGAD2, RYZN, TACI, TNFRSF14B.
