GLCE

Description

The GLCE (glucuronic acid epimerase) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

The GLCE gene encodes D-glucuronyl C5-epimerase, an enzyme involved in human biology.

The GLCE gene encodes an enzyme that converts D-glucuronic acid residues to L-iduronic acid residues in maturing heparan sulfate (HS) and heparin chains. This conversion occurs specifically adjacent to N-sulfate sugar residues and is essential for further modifications that define the specificity of interactions between these glycosaminoglycans and proteins.

GLCE is also known as HSEPI.
