GNG2
Description
The GNG2 (G protein subunit gamma 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.
GNG2, or Guanine nucleotide-binding protein G(I)/G(S)/G(O) subunit gamma-2, is a protein encoded by the GNG2 gene in humans. Heterotrimeric G proteins are essential for cellular responses to external signals, and the gamma subunit plays a key role in determining the specificity of G protein-receptor interactions.
G proteins serve as modulators or transducers in transmembrane signaling systems. The beta and gamma subunits are crucial for GTPase activity, GDP-to-GTP exchange, and interactions with G protein effectors.
GNG2 is also known as HG3F1.
