GNG8

Description

The GNG8 (G protein subunit gamma 8) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

GNG8, also known as Gamma-9, plays a crucial role in transmembrane signaling systems. It forms part of the G protein complex, a group of proteins that act as molecular switches, mediating communication between cells. Specifically, GNG8, along with its beta subunit partner, is essential for the GTPase activity of the G protein complex. This activity allows the protein to cycle between active (GTP-bound) and inactive (GDP-bound) states, regulating signal transduction pathways.

GNG8 is also known as HG3E.
