Description
The GPR61 (G protein-coupled receptor 61) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.
GPR61 is a human gene that encodes a protein belonging to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family. These receptors contain 7 transmembrane domains and transmit signals from outside the cell through heterotrimeric G proteins. GPR61's encoded protein is most closely related to biogenic amine receptors.
GPR61 is an orphan G-protein coupled receptor that constitutively activates the G(s)-alpha/cAMP signaling pathway. It interacts with the melatonin receptor MTNR1B, likely through receptor heteromerization, leading to a reciprocal regulatory interaction. GPR61 may play a role in regulating food intake and body weight.
