GTF2H3

Description

The GTF2H3 (general transcription factor IIH subunit 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

GTF2H3, also known as TFIIH subunit 3, is a crucial component of the TFIIH complex, a multi-protein complex involved in both DNA repair and transcription. In DNA repair, particularly nucleotide excision repair (NER), TFIIH plays a vital role in opening the DNA around damaged sections, enabling the removal of the damaged fragment and its replacement with a new DNA segment. In transcription, TFIIH is essential for initiating the process. Once the pre-initiation complex (PIC) has assembled, TFIIH is required for opening the promoter region and allowing RNA polymerase II to proceed with transcription. The CAK module, a kinase module associated with TFIIH, phosphorylates the C-terminal tail of RNA polymerase II, a key step in initiating transcription.

GTF2H3 is also known as BTF2, P34, TFB4, TFIIH.
