The PIK3R4 (phosphoinositide-3-kinase regulatory subunit 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

PIK3R4 is a gene that provides instructions for making an enzyme called phosphoinositide 3-kinase regulatory subunit 4. This enzyme is also known as PI3-kinase regulatory subunit 4, PI3-kinase p150 subunit, phosphoinositide 3-kinase adaptor protein, or VPS15.

PIK3R4 is a regulatory subunit of the PI3K complex that helps create phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate. It forms different complex versions, each playing a role in membrane trafficking. PI3KC3-C1 helps start the formation of autophagosomes, while PI3KC3-C2 assists in the maturation of autophagosomes and endocytosis. PIK3R4 is also involved in regulating degradative endocytic trafficking and cell division, likely through the PI3KC3-C2 complex.
