POLR2M

Description

The POLR2M (RNA polymerase II subunit M) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

This protein isoform is a stable component of the Pol II(G) complex, a form of RNA polymerase II (Pol II). Pol II plays a crucial role in synthesizing mRNA precursors and various functional non-coding RNAs, acting as the central component of the basal RNA polymerase II transcription machinery. This protein may contribute to the Mediator complex-dependent regulation of transcription activation. It acts as a negative regulator of transcriptional activation, a repression that is alleviated by the Mediator complex. This complex restores Pol II(G) activator-dependent transcription to levels similar to those of Pol II.

POLR2M is also known as GCOM1, GRINL1A, Gdown, Gdown1.
