Description

The PRPF3 (pre-mRNA processing factor 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

PRPF3, a human gene, encodes for the protein U4/U6 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein Prp3. This protein is involved in the removal of introns from nuclear pre-mRNAs. Intron removal occurs within complexes known as spliceosomes, which consist of four small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (snRNP) particles and various splicing factors. PRPF3 is associated with U4 and U6 snRNPs, playing a vital role in the splicing process. PRPF3 has also been found to interact with the protein DVL3.

PRPF3 plays a crucial role in pre-mRNA splicing as a component of the U4/U6-U5 tri-snRNP complex, essential for spliceosome assembly, and as a component of the precatalytic spliceosome (spliceosome B complex).

PRPF3 is also known as HPRP3, HPRP3P, PRP3, Prp3p, RP18, SNRNP90.
