PRPF4

Description

The PRPF4 (pre-mRNA splicing tri-snRNP complex factor PRPF4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

The PRPF4 gene encodes the U4/U6 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein Prp4 protein in humans. This protein is a crucial component of spliceosomes, which are large complexes responsible for removing introns from nuclear pre-mRNAs. Spliceosomes are composed of four small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (snRNP) particles and various transiently associated splicing factors.

PRPF4 is a key player in the process of pre-mRNA splicing. It acts within the U4/U6-U5 tri-snRNP complex, which is essential for the assembly of spliceosomes. Furthermore, PRPF4 is a component of the precatalytic spliceosome, also known as the spliceosome B complex.

PRPF4 is also known as HPRP4, HPRP4P, PRP4, Prp4p, RP70, SNRNP60.
