QTRT1

Description

The QTRT1 (queuine tRNA-ribosyltransferase catalytic subunit 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

QTRT1 is the catalytic subunit of the queuine tRNA-ribosyltransferase (TGT) enzyme, which is responsible for replacing guanine (G) with queuine (Q) at position 34 in specific tRNAs. This modification, known as queuosine, is a hypermodified nucleoside that plays a role in maintaining proteome integrity by influencing the speed of translation and ensuring proper protein folding. The enzyme functions through a double-displacement mechanism involving two active sites: a nucleophile site that detaches the guanine base and a proton acceptor site that facilitates the attachment of queuine.

QTRT1 is also known as FP3235, TGT, TGUT.
