RBM15B

Description

The RBM15B (RNA binding motif protein 15B) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

RBM15B is a protein that binds to RNA. It is important for a process called N6-methyladenosine (m6A) methylation, which modifies RNA and affects how it works. RBM15B helps with splicing, the process of making a functional RNA molecule, and with inactivating the X chromosome, a process that happens in females. It also works with other proteins to help transport RNA out of the nucleus.

RBM15B is a key regulator of N6-methyladenosine (m6A) methylation of RNAs, which plays a role in RNA processing, alternative splicing, and X chromosome inactivation. It functions as a component of the WMM complex, a complex that mediates m6A methylation. RBM15B binds target RNAs and recruits the WMM complex, leading to m6A methylation. RBM15B also functions in the regulation of alternative splicing and inhibits pre-mRNA splicing. It acts as a cofactor for the nuclear export receptor NXF1, facilitating mRNA export.

RBM15B is also known as HUMAGCGB, HsOTT3, OTT3.
